Stanhill Farm News!

Easter is just around the corner, and has seen the welcome return of our favourite Hot Cross buns! Delivered fresh each morning by our local bakery and priced at £1.45 each, make the most of these tasty treats while they are still around! It is traditional to eat warm Hot Cross buns on Good Friday, with their combination of spicy, sweet, and fruity flavours they have long been an Easter tradition.

Superstitions about Hot Cross buns ranged from the belief they had medicinal powers, to sailors insisting on having them on board to ensure a safe voyage. Today it is still considered good luck to hang one above your door on Good Friday.  We currently also have Easter Cakes (large/round) priced at £5.50 each, Easter Muffins priced at £3.50 each (pack of two), Easter Bakewell tarts priced at £1.50 each, and Easter Gingerbread priced at £1.50 each.

We still have Blood oranges and nadorcotts available, however, Seville oranges have now finished.

English Forced rhubarb is now available, sourced from the Rhubarb Triangle in West Yorkshire, famous for producing early Forced rhubarb. The rhubarb is kept in complete darkness and pickers then pull the stalks in candlelight, as any exposure to strong light will stop the growth. Forced rhubarb is priced at £8.50 per kilo, more expensive than the rhubarb cut later in the year due to the specialised way in which it is grown and harvested. Our own green top rhubarb grown here on the farm will be ready soon!

We are sourcing a new apple from Roughway Farm, Tonbridge, called Cameo. It has just come out of their cold store, so still has a very good crunch to it! Braeburn, Bramley and Gala are still English but are being sourced from the wholesale market.

We are currently harvesting parsnips, leeks, sprouts, kale and kalettes. Fresh from the fields, zero food miles and no plastic!

All of the above are available to buy from both the Farm Shop and Click & Collect Service, with the exception of the Easter Cakes, Easter Muffins, Easter Bakewell tarts, and Easter Gingerbread, which are only available from the Farm Shop. Subject to availability.

We have now reverted back to our spring/summer opening hours. Monday to Friday the Farm Shop will close at the later time of 5:30pm. Sundays and bank holidays the Farm Shop closing time remains the same at 4:00pm.

Please note our opening times for Easter weekend, as follows:
